Weekly Update – October 19th!!!

Posted by: Mom~E~Centric  /  Category: my eating habits

Well, I’m no where near ready for photos of me in a swimsuit or anything like that, and to be honest, this week was pretty insignificant since I managed to only hold steady at 209 pounds.  I do think that next week will be my release date for doing more, however, the ortho seems to think that I’ll never get the ankle as strong as I want or expect.

I mean, you know, really, I guess even if it does have a rod, screws and all that, it is probably way stronger than it has been since I was in college and spraining it every few weeks only to go back to the field before it healed properly.  Hey, we might have just figured out why this all happened in the first place, eh?

So, anyway, considering we ate out 3 times last week, holding steady this week is really an accomplishment.  And, well, count that piece of apple pie and you have a recipe for trouble.  So, here we go, a new week ahead and a fridge stocked with ice cold water instead of cans and cans of soda….woot woot!  Go me!

Those same 10 pounds…Static Exercises really are like watching glue dry..

Posted by: Mom~E~Centric  /  Category: I can do this

So, I know I’m late with this post, and probably had I been here to bear bad news, I would have just forgot about it entirely.  However, the good news is kind of an odd bit though.

When we last saw “the scales”, I was up 7 pounds.  Yesterday, down 9 pounds.  Now obviously at this rate, I should start to slim down albeit extremely slowly if I am going to gain 7 and lose 9, gain 7 and lose 9.  However, this does put me below where I’ve been in about 3 years.

I’m not sure if you guys realize that when you eat like I do (as I shove another chocolate covered cashew in my mouth because I am a nervous wreck about an event tomorrow), losing weight is no easy task.  And, regardless, exercise is the answer.  However, I have yet to be released from the Ortho and so I am stuck…..doing static exercises and trying to build up the strength in my foot.

And really, static exercises rank right up there with watching glue dry – worse than even watching paint dry…

Hopefully, soon, and I do mean soon, I can say that I am ready to kick the EASports ladies butt.  That chick, she just mocks me and my static exercises.  I have tried the volleyball and boxing again from my chair which I know sounds ridiculous but I try to bend and reach to my sides as much as possible when I do this.

The down side to that is I tend to put my legs in a constant state of contraction and I end up with an aching leg (from the break and subsequent surgery) for a day or two.  But, it’s better than watching glue dry.

Check this out on Dr. Andy Baldwin and his ride across Pennsylvania.

An update…of sorts..

I’ve spent the last several days on my feet.  And just ask my leg that I had surgery on and it will tell you that indeed, I did too much.  I go back to the doctor tomorrow but I still walk with a horrible limp.  I know I sound like such a wimp but honestly, I just don’t know what to make of it all.

In the meantime, I’ve managed to twist the other ankle a total of 4 times, the last one being on Friday and it is swollen.  Is it bad? No, it isn’t broken.  Does it hurt?  Yea, a little.  Now what?  I wish I knew.

I have no clue what the good doctor will tell me tomorrow but I will most definitely keep you posted.  I honestly don’t look to be released and ready for action since I am still limping so much but you never know, stranger things have happened.

August First – I guess you are wondering where the heck I am uh?

Posted by: Mom~E~Centric  /  Category: update of sorts

Actually, it is more like August 2nd and pushing really close into August 3rd.  Why is that?  Well, I have on internet at home and the fast food places turn their wireless off when they close at night (just kidding, I’ve not stayed that long in any one place just yet).  I should have internet service no later than Tuesday afternoon so when you read this, I will surely be moved on to another topic.  Hopefully because really, I’ve beaten this dead horse to the pits of hell.

So, am I part of the 30 day challenge on EASports as of August 1st?  Resoundingly the answer is still no.  I have managed, by some stroke of luck (and lots of carrots) to maintain this weight of 215 which I have bounced from and up to 225 about 10 times since I was diagnosed with thyroid disorders and diabetes.  So, if I can just hang on (and eat more carrots), hopefully the increase in activity level will make a huge difference.

So, with that, what’s my plan?  You know, I always have a plan.  The good news is that my foot is much better.  I actually wore 2 shoes for the past 2.5 weeks with a little black ankle brace and part of the time I even sported a flip flop instead of a tennis shoe.  I go back to the doctor this week and my only issue left to address is that my ankle hurts.

Yea, well that was the issue we were addressing about 7.5 months ago too, eh?  But, in some ways, the ankle seems very weak and I know that part of my problem is shear apprehension that by putting too much weight on it I will cause more pain or even cause it to twist again (which isn’t likely since there’s all kinds of metal in there).  However, a bigger issue in my opinion is the spot where the bone graft was done has a penchant for causing burning sensations and quite painful aches about 95% of the time.

So, what’s a girl to do?  I wait.  I will see the good doctor on Thursday I think and explain the dilemma which I already know he is going to answer with “the graft site has healed, we already saw that on the x-rays” which is all well and good but for some reason, healed is not equaling “pain-free”.

So, I do hope that soon I am on track and I have some other announcements coming in a few days as well….with a few days being relative to when I ever get my internet service back, gah!

EASports – kicking my booty

Posted by: Mom~E~Centric  /  Category: update of sorts

I had planned to really get the EASports challenge in June and work it hard.  And, I did for a few days.  However, in the previous couple of days, I have had extreme pain in my plate and especially where the bone graft was done.

At one point it was hurting so bad when my husband got home from work, I was ready to hit the emergency room.  He talked me into some pain meds and to wait and see what happened.  It helped and I was talked off the limb.

However, after discussing it, even though I was doing everything from the chair on the Challenge, I was keeping the leg in the cast very tense and it simply is not ready for that just 2 weeks post-op.  Add to that some really horrible weather and so I am going to continue to do a few of the challenges and have fun with my family but then re-set the challenge and start once the cast is off and the doctor has given me the go ahead for more than simple rehab.

So, I’ll update you as I go, but keep up and just you wait til I start to kick EASports’ butt.

So while I am busting my bootie….

I was stoked about the whole EASports ordeal.  I mean heck, I still am, but anyway, the first day I broke open the box, my whole family went bizerk.  I am bragging on twitter about how much I like it and active_girl from EASports sends me this tweet

“@jareason whoa! Be careful – do not kill yourself. It will still be around for when you’re better!”

And, I was like oh girl, we are fine, we are having fun, this is great.  I mean, even boxing and playing volleyball from my chair was a freakin’ blast.

And, most of my posts so far have been long, this one want me because…….I’ve spent the day in tears with pain meds flowing through my veins.  Apparently even though I was in the chair, I had my muscles tensed up and dear lord the pain.  So, I skipped today even though my 30 day challenge didn’t tell me today was a rest day, it had to be a rest day.

So, tomorrow, I’ll try again with a little less  intensity and see what happens…….I have some Amazon money saved up and I am thinking about order Wii Fit but then I think…it will taunt me and my foot has to get well before I can do that….so I’m going to buy a comforter instead, lol.

OH  well, her girl can’t have money just burning her pocketbook like that, geez.

Me and EASports

Posted by: Mom~E~Centric  /  Category: Introduction

Ok, so day one of me teaming with EASports to “get healthy” has gone surprisingly well.  First of all, there’s this nutty cast to work around.  So, basically, I have to use a lot of upper body cardio to get in a decent work-out and I can do many static upper body exercises while sitting as well.

Today as I hobbled over to the TV where the Wii is hooked up, I carried, a bottle of water, my box including the game and it’s accessories and my camera.  Immediately upon making the first photo, the camera went dead…

So…I hobbled across the room to retrieve my camera that does video, to make 2 short videos and guess what? Dead Batteries….

So, I hobbled to the other side of the room to retrieve camera number 3 and guess what? No, honestly, I am not making this up, dead batteries.  So, as it was, I got no usable video.  Honestly,. it was all crappy and so….tomorrow is another day.

Today I went through the set up process, picked out some clothing and shoes for my little lady and a body size along with a female trainer.  I did the boxing which holy cow, I was not very good at that, but I will be soon, then I did some static exercises, filled out my journal and calendar (which would only allow me to start on July 1st, not June 1st, but at least I know what it going on) and then I really had broken a sweat…that boxing is really hard, no kidding…..

Don’t let me catch you trying to read those stats ok?

Onward…tomorrow….Day 2.
